I think it's easy (and useful) to look at the Drupal module usage frequency and just start downloading the popular ones but what about the little known ones that save your butt on a day to day basis? Or that cool, minor, functionality change that saves you lots of time? Or that new module that you just saw the other day that is a god-send?
Why not tell others about it? I know that I often find out about the "game changer" modules from the oddest of places (and people!), often times through a "oh yeah I just used...." type of conversation where you'd never have heard about the module otherwise; the assumption is just made that you already do! This isn't for things like Views or CCK. Yeah, they're cool, make Drupal amazingly powerful and EVERYONE'S heard of them, we get it. This is for the utility wrench kind of modules like External Links, Search and Replace (my baby), Menu Block, and other smaller yet useful projects. (you MUST have heard of those three right? I mean EVERYONE has ;) ).
I'll personally be bringing up a cool module (my baby as well) called the Outline Designer that people are slowly starting to find out about. OD lets users organize and generate content very rapidly in Drupal. It also lowers the cost of entry for non-Drupal users to the point that they can structure sites without knowing anything about how to use Drupal (and yet you haven't heard of it unless you follow my blog!). Likewise, I haven't heard of your utility knife unless I follow your blog so let's discuss these gems in the open!
